There's a vocal contingent of folks on the Internet who believe that Marvel Studios relies too heavily on comedic elements in their movies. I've never subscribed to that opinion...until now. I know that Spider-Man is supposed to be generally lighthearted (I've been a huge Spidey fan all my life, so believe me when I say I know what the guy is all about), but "Homecoming is crammed with silly humor to the point of being obnoxious about it. It's a giggle-fest from beginning to end; goofy almost to the point of self-parody. Michael Keaton's Vulture is good (although not at all similar to the comic book character), and there are some decent action scenes, but the whole project just comes together as one big piece of superficial candy. As such, it lacks the heart and gravitas of previous movies like "Spider-Man 2" and "The Amazing Spider-Man". (Even Marisa Tomei's Aunt May seems to be played strictly for laughs. When three different characters comment on how hot Aunt May is within the first twenty minutes of the movie, you know something has gone awry.)
