If you're familiar with sci-fi visual novels, its contents will not surprise you; it has an everything-and-the-kitchen-sink approach, plenty of references to outside media, etc. But being able to tackle over a dozen character stories at your own pace & navigate story locks is transformative; you get to follow story threads that most interest you and prioritize what you read first. The characters are tropey, the concepts are nothing new, but the presentation and story navigation make it more than the sum of its parts. I played for about 15 hours before giving up, though. I don't like the combat. It's not bad, exactly, but it's not great, either. It's a sort of freeform tower defense SRPG. But the presentation is so distant that it's hard to stay invested. Even on the "Intense" difficulty, I got S-ranks without feeling that I gave it my all. There's a lot of annoying micro-management with the ability to invest specific attacks up to five times, increase mechs' stats... and across 15 characters, that's exhausting, especially since the consequences of all these upgrades are kinda vague at best. There's something about combat that isn't effortless but not particularly challenging that rubs me the wrong way. I'm very all-or-nothing like that. If you love even so-so SRPG combat, you'll be happy to chew through battles. But I kinda wish it was a straight-up visual novel.
